The Shear Assisted Processing and Extrusion (ShAPETM) project shows the potential to increase throughput and reduce manufacturing costs and energy use for aluminum alloy 7075 extrusions. Aluminum alloy 7075 (AA7075) is a high-strength, low-weight metal alloy that can handle heavy mechanical stresses.
Germany’s SMS group acquired Italian companies Hydromec S.R.L. and OMAV S.p.A. to further expand its product range in the forging-press and extrusion-plant markets. Hydromec manufactures forging presses and ring-rolling mills, and OMAV supplies aluminum extrusion lines. With its extended product portfolio, SMS group is now able to supply complete extrusion lines and forging plants with all upstream and downstream equipment and process technology from a single source.
According to a report on SurfKY.com, automotive parts maker Hansens Aluminum LLC plans to invest $18.4 million to build an aluminum extrusion facility in Henderson, Ky. The 75,000-square-foot plant would create 90 new jobs.
The SPOT AL EQS (SPOT aluminum extrusion, quench and strip) pyrometer provides high accuracy and a three-in-one capability specifically for aluminum applications, including extrusion press exit, extrusion press quench zone and aluminum strip mills.
Service Center Metals (SCM) of Prince George, Va., placed an order with Hertwich Engineering to supply a compact-type remelt plant for the production of extrusion billets.
