Today, Nov. 15, is America Recycles Day, which was created to raise awareness about recycling and the purchasing of recycled products. A Keep America Beautiful national initiative, it is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the U.S. Did you know that around 20% of the world's aluminum requirements are covered by post-consumer scrap? Not to be left out, recycled steel is going to play a big part in the industry moving forward. Greensteel, for example, plans to recycle scrap steel using electric-arc furnaces powered by renewable energy. What about titanium? A plant in Europe will produce aviation-grade titanium by recycling. Chips and solid scrap are collected from aircraft manufacturers and then turned into titanium alloys.
