Aluminum Recycling Plant Opening in Michigan

Global aluminum company Hydro broke ground on its aluminum recycling plant in Cassopolis, Mich. Hydro will invest approximately $150 million in the facility, which will produce 265 million pounds of aluminum extrusion ingot per year and create approximately 70 new jobs. When completed, the plant will help Hydro reach its goal of doubling recycling of post-consumer aluminum by 2025. Applications for the aluminum produced in Cassopolis will be used for critical automotive applications and building system applications.

Largest Aluminum Slab in North America Manufactured

Ellwood Aluminum of Hubbard, Ohio, says that it has manufactured the largest cross-section sized aluminum slab ever produced in North America. In partnership with Wagstaff, Ellwood Aluminum cast an aluminum slab that weighed over 95,000 pounds. It will be used for injection mold dies. With dedicated melting and holding furnaces and a casting pit capable of lengths up to 360 inches, Ellwood Aluminum produces rectangular aluminum slabs that are made to customer specifications and preferred chemistries and alloys. The company’s aluminum slabs are also approved by international and U.S. rolling mills.

Logan Aluminum Orders Pusher Furnace

Otto Junker GmbH delivered a pusher furnace for heating and homogenizing aluminum ingot to Logan Aluminum Inc. in Russellville, Ky. Logan Aluminum manufactures flat-rolled aluminum sheet primarily used in the beverage market. In an effort to expand production, the company now operates the largest ingot furnace Otto Junker has ever supplied. The gas-fired furnace can simultaneously hold 32 ingots weighing up to 32 metric tons each, resulting in a charge weight of over 1,000 metric tons. High-convection technology ensures fast heating and cooling with short cycle times and low energy consumption.
