Torch brazing uses the intensely hot flame from a torch to heat up the metals in the joint area, bringing it up to brazing temperature fairly quickly (from just a few seconds to a few minutes maximum) depending on the size and mass of the part being heated.

Torch brazing differs extensively from torch welding. With brazing, the flame should not be oxidizing and should be held much farther from the part than a welding flame would be. The flame for brazing should wrap around the entire joint (if possible) so as to evenly heat the whole joint rather than just a small portion of it.

Another VERY important factor that must be considered in order to produce high-quality torch-brazed joints is that special people with special skills are needed. What do I mean by this?

Just because someone claims to be a so-called “certified” torch brazer does not mean that he/she will actually produce good-looking, leak-tight brazed joints in actual production situations.
