Omer Haimbaugh started Induction Heat Treating Corp. (IHT) in 1946 in Chicago with an induction heater he used to braze bread pans. Today, over 70 years later, the company has more than 20 induction heaters and 60 employees.
Corr-Paint CP4050 is a high-temperature, green-pigmented coating that provides corrosion and oxidation protection and color identification for induction heaters and heat exchangers used in demanding industrial applications at temperatures up to 1100°F (593°C).
Primetals Technologies and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) will acquire ABP Induction Systems (ABP), a global manufacturer and servicer of induction furnaces and heating systems. ABP provides state-of-the-art equipment for ferrous and nonferrous metal casting, forging and steelmaking. Its main products are induction melting, holding and pouring furnaces as well as induction heaters. MHI and Primetals Technologies will jointly take ABP’s shares, and future business activities will be conducted in close cooperation with and under the leadership of Primetals Technologies.
Advanced Heat Treat Corp. (AHT) announced building expansions at its Monroe, Mich., and Waterloo, Iowa, locations. The extra space will enable AHT to add more equipment and services. The Michigan site is expanding its pit, which will allow for two additional nitriding units. AHT Burton, referred to by the street name because there are two locations in Waterloo, is adding additional square footage onto its building. The expansion will allow for additional equipment and services to be added. The expansions are expected to be complete by mid-summer.
Fives received an order from Baosteel, the largest automotive steel producer in China, to supply the complete thermal portion for a continuous annealing line (CAL) with a production capacity of 630,000 tons per year. The CAL, which aims to produce both standard steel grades and advanced high-strength steels, includes a Stein Digiflex furnace and Celes induction heaters. The first coil is scheduled to be produced by the end of 2021.
The Industrial Heating Equipment Association (IHEA) heads to Cleveland, Ohio, for its 2019 Fall Seminars and Fall Business Conference. The event will be held at the Intercontinental Cleveland Sept. 24-26. The technical seminar series will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by the IHEA Fall Business Conference on Thursday.
Retech Systems, a subsidiary of SECO/WARWICK Group, supplied two vacuum induction melting (VIM) systems to Siemens Power and Gas division. The VIM systems will play a key role in the casting of components such as turbine blades and vanes for the power-generation industry. One VIM directional solidification/single crystal/equiax pitless (VIM DS/SC/EQ) combination casting furnace and one VIM directional solidification/single crystal (DS/SC) casting furnace were installed.
Dr. Valery Rudnev presented the 77th Woodside Lecture May 13 in Livonia, Mich. His presentation focused on recent theoretical and practical novelties in induction heat treatment. Common mispostulations associated with induction heating and frequently overlooked metallurgical subtleties were also discussed.
