Instead of the current turtle-like habitat design (carrying your house on your back), NASA scientists are considering building a mushroom base as human habitat for future Mars missions. NASA said, “Ultimately, the project envisions a future where human explorers can bring a compact habitat built out of lightweight material with dormant fungi (mycelia) that will last on long journeys to places like Mars.”
