Electrical Steel Plant to Close in Wales
October 10, 2019
Tata Steel’s Orb Electrical Steels plant in Newport, Wales, is set to close. The company says up to 380 jobs could be lost. The facility, which was put up for sale in May 2018, makes electrical steel used in generators, transformers and motors for the auto industry.
The trade union, however, says the closure would be a “grave error” and has called on the U.K. government to invest in the plant.
