Researchers from the National University of Science and Technology developed a database that will help create new grades of steels. The goal is to speed up the process of creating innovative steel grades with specified strength and ductility.

A database like this is needed because steelmakers like ArcelorMittal have been producing more and more grades of advanced high-strength steel. The company’s mill in Burns Harbor, Ind., for example, makes more than 170 grades.
