We have heard so much about graphene over the past years, but borophene – a single layer of boron atoms – appears to be taking its place. It is stronger and more flexible than graphene, and it could revolutionize sensors, batteries and catalytic chemistry. Borophene was first synthesized in 2015 using chemical vapor deposition, which condenses a hot gas of boron atoms onto a cool surface of pure silver.
