In a recent study, an Osaka University research team demonstrated that cracks induced in composites of alumina (Al2O3) ceramics with titanium (Ti) as a dispersed phase could be healed at room temperature. High electrical conductivity was achieved by homogeneously dispersing Ti. Room-temperature crack-healing occurred by anodization without heat treatment. For the first time, full recovery of fracture strength to its original level was obtained.
