Spain’s Hormesa is distributing Flextreme technology – an advanced manufacturing process – to the global aluminum industry. Developed and patented by Novelis, Flextreme is a horizontal continuous-casting process that produces bars with a superior surface that generally does not require scalping. Its solidification structure also obviates the need for heat treatment before forming.
According to Hormesa, the technology reduces work processes, energy consumption and production costs, thus facilitating the recovery of scrap and offering the possibility of producing parts with specific diameters and alloys for various later applications. In addition, Flextreme significantly reduces CO2 emissions and is also applicable to the automotive and aerospace industries.
