It’s not St. Patrick’s Day, but there is much recent discussion about steel going green. The Indian government is working with an Indian-born Australian scientist who has a patented technology that breaks down used car tires to produce hydrogen and oxygen in electric-arc furnaces. Already being used by Australian steelmakers, the process has been shown to reduce coke and coking coal consumption nearly 15%. Here's the story.
