Jedaiah “JD” Hungerford got an early start on his blacksmithing career. At 15, he started grinding and forging knives. That early work paid off, as the 20-year-old resident of Elmira, N.Y., won an episode of the History Channel’s popular show “Forged in Fire.” Hungerford made a Damascus-steel blade knife before designing and constructing a medieval hunting crossbow in the final.
