Heat-treat defects caused the July crash of a marine chopper that killed five troops. This is the tentative finding of a joint team of civilian, government and military experts. The helicopter was developed by a South Korean defense firm with technological support from Airbus Helicopters. Investigators believe that cracks were created in the rotor mast due to a flawed subcontractor heat-treatment process.
