Melt-and-Manufacture Plate Mill Breaks Ground in Texas
JSW USA broke ground in Baytown, Texas, on what it says is the most technologically advanced and eco-friendly electric-arc furnace, slab caster and plate mill in the world. According to the company, it is the only melt-and-manufacture plate mill with a contiguous pipe mill in North America. JSW USA plans to hire 1,000 new workers and invest up to $1 billion to modernize and expand its U.S. operations.
The melt-and-manufacture EAF and slab caster, which will feed directly into the soon-to-be-revitalized plate mill, are being built on 111 acres at JSW USA’s 700-acre Baytown campus. JSW USA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW Group, a $13 billion group headquartered in India with more than 40,000 employees worldwide.
