New Heat-Treatment Process for Stainless Steel

A European Union-funded project, PLASSTEEL, developed a process for low-temperature surface hardening of stainless steel that enables accurate tailoring of material properties. The heat treatment can be applied to ferritic, martensitic, austenitic and duplex grades, imparting the material with unparalleled levels of wear, fatigue and corrosion resistance.
