Tata Steel is working on a technology to further reduce steel-plant emissions. They are claiming that with the new technology (HIsarna) combined with capture and storage of waste gas could result in an 80% reduction in carbon-dioxide emissions. Production-scale facilities will not be in place before 2025, however.
Similarly, SSAB is planning to transition to fossil-free steelmaking using hydrogen. The plan involves converting the blast furnaces by 2025 and reach their carbon-free target by 2045.
