India plans to purchase a fleet of 83 single-engine fighters for approximately $8 billion as part of a recently launched program. The light combat aircraft, LCA Mark-1A, will be manufactured by state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. According to the country’s Ministry of Defense, it is the first effort to build fighters in the country without obtaining technology transfer from overseas.
