D. Scott MacKenzie, Ph.D., research scientist – metallurgy at Houghton International Inc., was elected to serve as president of the International Federation for Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering (IFHTSE) for a two-year term (Jan. 1, 2018-Jan. 1, 2020).
MacKenzie has been the ASM representative to IFHTSE’s Executive Committee since 2015. Awarded ASM Fellow in 2007, he currently serves as research scientist – metallurgy at Houghton International and is responsible for sales and technical support of heat-treating customers globally. MacKenzie has been published in over 150 publications and books, mainly in the field of heat treating and quenching. He is an active member in ASM, serving as chairman and co-chairman, and has participated on the organizing committee of numerous heat-treating conferences.
Founded in Switzerland in 1971, IFHTSE is an international group of scientific/technological societies and associations, groups and companies, and individuals whose primary interest is heat treatment and surface engineering. IFHTSE represents heat-treating and surface-engineering organizations around the globe, with memberships from approximately 25 different countries. The not-for-profit body’s primary function is to promote international collaboration and communication on heat treatment and surface engineering through the sharing of knowledge.
