It’s troubling to some that one of the U.K.’s iconic landmarks is using foreign steel for a huge makeover project. The Big Ben clock tower is surrounded by scaffolding made of steel from Germany, Brazil and the United Arab Emirates. MP Stephen Kinnock said, “Big Ben is seen as symbol of our country around the world, but its renovation is fast becoming a symbol of this government’s indifferent and incompetent approach to our steel industry.”
