Big Boy #4014 Gets Forgings
June 21, 2017
The Union Pacific Big Boy #4014, a steam engine from 1941, is being brought back to life. The restoration recently received several 1,000-pound crosshead-guide forgings, which will be machined to make the 400-pound parts that connect the locomotive’s piston rods with the main rods. It’s expected that the Big Boy will be in service for 2019.
