According to a report in The Brownsville Herald, the Port of Brownsville is in the running for an advanced flex steel mill. Big River Steel is expected to decide sometime in the near future whether to build a new mill in Brownsville or expand its Arkansas operation. Port officials say the mill, which would supply the automotive and vehicle component industries in Texas and Mexico, would directly support 500 new full-time jobs with a minimum annual salary of $75,000.
