According to a report from MassLive, OMG Inc. is close to completing a $15 million expansion to add heat-treating equipment to its manufacturing facility in Agawam, Mass. The heat-treating plant will be added to the company’s manufacturing, warehousing and administrative capabilities. The equipment, of which $10 million has already been installed, will be used to harden approximately 80% of the 100,000 pounds per day of screws OMG produces. Once completed, the line will have five heat-treating furnaces, as well as equipment for oil quenching, tempering and washing.

The new equipment will allow OMG to perform most of its heat-treating in-house. The company previously sent its screws out to be heat treated by other companies. OMG has already hired nine full-time employees to staff the heat-treating department, but it needs a total of 25 people.

OMG, originally known as Olympic Manufacturing, makes screws, washer plates, vents, metal edges, adhesives and construction equipment for commercial flat roofs. In addition to the Agawam plant OMG operates facilities in Addison, Ill.; Ashville, N.C.; Charlotte, N.C.; and Rockford, Minn.
