Lindberg/MPH shipped an electrically heated gas-nitriding pit furnace with an ammonia dissociator to be used for heat treating parts. The system performs a two-stage nitriding process to achieve high surface hardness of steel parts. The ammonia dissociator provides dissociated ammonia during the second state of the nitriding cycle. The pit furnace has a maximum temperature rating of 1250°F (677°C) and work-chamber dimensions of 28 inches in diameter x 36 inches deep.

A state-of-the-art operator interface will monitor and control the furnace temperature, fan speed, atmosphere flow and cooling throughout the entire cycle. The control system solves the problems of controlling furnace atmospheres, storing batch data, tracking alarm trending and complying with AMS 2750E specifications. The furnace also includes a thermos-cartridge fan for increased heat and atmosphere recirculation, paperless chart recorder and oxygen and hydrogen sensors.
