voestalpine Group opened a new research and development center for 3D printing of metal parts in Düsseldorf, Germany. The voestalpine Additive Manufacturing Center will study the manufacturing process for particularly complex and lightweight metal components for use in the aerospace, automotive and tool manufacturing industries. The raw material required for the process – a specially manufactured metal powder – will be supplied by Group companies Böhler Edelstahl of Austria and Uddeholms AB of Sweden. The company’s next step will be more cooperative partnerships and locations in North America and China.
