Carbolite Gero Ltd. successfully commissioned a high-temperature laboratory furnace at the University of Virginia. The graphite system is capable of heating to 3000°C (5432°F) and includes high-vacuum capacity and PLC control. The furnace, which was manufactured for Dr. Haydn Wadley and Christopher Kassner, will assist the Material Science & Engineering department’s research into phase transformations and manufacturing methods for hierarchical silicon-carbide structures. The University of Virginia is the first university in North America to receive a Carbolite Gero 3000°C batch furnace.
