PhoenixTM received an order for a hot-box temperature monitoring system from a U.S. aluminum extrusion supplier for homogenizing the cast aluminum logs from which the extrusions are produced. After casting, logs are processed in a walking-beam furnace. To ensure all parts of the log adhere to the specified heat-treatment recipe, thermocouples are set into test logs at varying depths to measure the temperature profile. The PhoenixTM system attaches to and rotates with the log, enabling multiple thermocouple positions to be monitored throughout the process. Designed to be smaller than the overall log diameter so as not to impede its progress through the furnace, the system also incorporates a rotating evaporative system to protect the data logger.
