U.S. Bankruptcy Court approved Gränges acquisition of Noranda Aluminum Holding’s downstream aluminum rolling business in the U.S., which manufactures aluminum products for customers in North America. The transaction includes a rolling mill in Huntingdon, Tenn., which is one of the most modern and cost-effective light-gauge mills in North America; a smaller rolling mill in Salisbury, N.C.; and a surface-treatment plant in Newport, Ark. Total capacity of the acquired plants is approximately 180 kilotonnes/year. The deal will strengthen Stockholm, Sweden-based Gränges’ position in North America, and the company – a global supplier of rolled products for brazed aluminum heat exchangers – will add a number of strategic market segments in rolled aluminum. The acquired business will be part of Gränges Americas Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Gränges AB.
