Alcoa opened its 3D-printing metal powder production facility in Pittsburgh, Pa. Located at the Alcoa Technology Center, the company will produce proprietary titanium, nickel and aluminum powders optimized for 3D-printed aerospace parts. Alcoa has also invested in a range of technologies to further develop additive processes, product design and qualification. The plant, which was first announced in September 2015, is part of a $60 million investment that builds on Alcoa’s 3D-printing capabilities in California, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Texas.
