PhoenixTM received an order from a major U.S. aerospace manufacturer for two hot-box systems for monitoring the temperature profile of aluminum ingots during the reheat operation prior to the hot mill. Each system is embedded into the ingot and gathers temperature data from thermocouples set deep within the product. Because the ingot/slab rotates through 180 degrees as it enters and exits the furnace, the system has to be engineered so that it does not shed any cooling water when rotating as this could seriously affect its performance in the furnace. A 20-channel data logger with RF capability will transmit the temperature data out of the reheat furnace to a PC running PhoenixTM Thermal View software, which allows full analysis of the complete reheat cycle.
