A German company claims to have started up the largest 3D printing system in the U.S. At 4,000 mm long x 2,000 mm wide x 1,000 mm high, the VX4000 has a build space about the size of a VW Golf car.
According to voxeljet America, the VX4000 can not only produce the largest sand molds in the world, it can combine them with smaller mold components. The printer can be used to manufacture large rotors and turbines, which will benefit the foundry industry. Any company that uses casting processes, however, can utilize the technology.
The equipment, which was installed at the company’s U.S. headquarters in Canton, Mich., also prints stable side walls. This means that the size of the build space can be adjusted as needed.
