Lindberg/MPH shipped an electrically heated steam atmosphere pit furnace to a leading steel cutting tool supplier. The furnace performs a steam-treating process on tool steel with a maximum gross workload of 1,920 pounds. Steam treating produces an oxide film on the surface of the part, which improves wear resistance and corrosion resistance. This process creates a uniform blue-black finish. This furnace is the sixth Lindberg/MPH unit the customer owns and was ordered to replace a unit that had over 30 years of service.

The steam pit furnace has a maximum temperature rating of 1250°F, and the work chamber is 22 inches in diameter and 36 inches deep. It features a thermo-cartridge fan that increases heat and atmosphere recirculation. The Lindberg/MPH design has a maintenance-friendly fan and motor assembly to provide reliable and easy maintenance when needed. In addition, there is optimal steam piping control and atmosphere-tight retort systems in place.
