PhoenixTM designed and commissioned a “hot box” system for an aluminum-log casting plant in Germany. The log rotates in a walking-beam furnace in this homogenizing process, making it difficult to obtain accurate core product temperature information. The PhoenixTM system was designed to be attached to the log, which enables it to be used during normal production and also ensures that thermocouple positions are maintained throughout the process. Designed to be smaller than the overall log diameter so as to not impede its progress through the furnace, the thermal barrier also incorporates a rotating evaporative system to protect the data logger, which enhances thermal performance.
