Industrial Heating’s monthly economic indicators for September 2014 could be interpreted two different ways. While three of four indices failed to show growth (over 50), all were extremely close (over 49). In fact, September marked just the fifth time this year that all four indices were at least 49. The change in the number of request for quotes, meanwhile, showed growth for the first time since May. September 2014’s index numbers reflect the changes experienced by responding companies as they compare their August 2014 business levels to their July 2014 levels. September 2014’s index numbers:
- Change in number of request for quotes from July to August – 50.6
- Change in number of orders from July to August – 49.2
- Change in backlog from July to August – 49.8
- Expected change in the health of the industry through Sept. – 49.6
A number above 50.0 indicates increased activity or growth. A number below 50.0 indicates decreased activity or a decline in growth. Look for these numbers, along with historical values, in October 2014’s Industrial Heating.
