Lucifer Furnaces provided a new box furnace to Quantum Machine Works Ltd. in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. Quantum Machine Works is a manufacturer of core drilling machines and components for the mineral exploration industry. The furnace has working chamber dimensions of 12 inches high x 18 inches wide x 24 inches long and heats to 2100°F. This unit boasts 2.5 inches of insulating firebrick backed up with 2.5 inches of mineral-wool block. The 1.25-inch silicon carbide hearth plate provides a strong, flat working surface while protecting floor insulation. Quantum Machine Works is located more than 1,500 miles from the nearest heat-treating facility. The new furnace fills the company’s need for custom, specialized heat treating with quick turnaround.
