According to a report in Crain’s Cleveland Business, ASM International will head a consortium that hopes to identify and bring to market new thermal manufacturing technologies (including heat treating). The group also includes the Association of Iron and Steel Technology, the Forging Industry Association (FIA), the Heat Treating Society (an ASM affiliate), the Industrial Heating Equipment Association (IHEA), the Metals Processing Institute, the Metal Treating Institute (MTI), Nexight LLC and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The project, which is being partly funded by a $400,000 advanced manufacturing technology planning grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, is expected to last for 18 months.
