Industrial Heating’s monthly economic indicators for May 2014 showed marked improvement from last month. All four numbers increased, and all four were over 50 (showing growth). Perhaps more importantly, the change in the number of request for quotes, change in the number of orders and change in backlog were all at or above 55 for only the fourth time since January 2011. May 2014’s index numbers reflect the changes experienced by responding companies as they compare their April 2014 business levels to their March 2014 levels. May 2014’s index numbers:

  • Change in number of request for quotes from March to April  – 56.2
  • Change in number of orders from March to April  – 56.8
  • Change in backlog from March to April  – 55.0
  • Expected change in the health of the industry through May – 52.5

A number above 50.0 indicates increased activity or growth. A number below 50.0 indicates decreased activity or a decline in growth. Look for these numbers, along with historical values, in June 2014’s Industrial Heating.
