Joint-venture partners SGL Group and BMW Group announced they will triple the capacity of their carbon-fiber plant, SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers, in Moses Lake, Wash. The $200 million expansion is expected to create 120 new jobs and be completed by early 2015. The Moses Lake plant currently operates two production lines, exclusively for the BMW i, with an annual output of approximately 3,000 tons of carbon fiber. SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers will commission a third and fourth production line this summer, doubling the plant’s capacity. The expansion includes a fifth and sixth production line, which will triple capacity to 9,000 tons/year and make it possible for the BMW Group to apply carbon-fiber material to other models in the future.
