China Steel Corp. (CSC), located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, successfully commissioned a 270-ton twin-ladle furnace supplied by Germany’s SMS Mevac. The furnace has an annual capacity of 1.94 million tons. A special design feature is the dog house, which minimizes the noise and dust in the furnace area. SMS Mevac’s scope of supply comprised the engineering of the twin-ladle furnace, including the entire material-handling system, supervision of installation and training. CSC now operates six RH plants and two ladle furnaces for liquid-steel treatment.
