Lucifer Furnaces shipped a high-temperature laboratory box furnace to Hammond Lead Products of Pottstown, Pa. Hammond, which produces products to serve the ceramics and glass industries, will use the furnace for the development of PZT powders. The furnace heats to 2500°F (1371°C) with silicon-carbide rod-type heating elements mounted above and below the hearth. The 12-inch x 12-inch x 12-inch chamber is lined with 7 inches of insulation consisting of 5 inches of insulating brick and 2 inches of mineral-wool block. Hammond selected a Honeywell UDC 3500 temperature controller with enhanced setpoint programming, fast scanning and onboard diagnostics.
