Automobile manufacturer Audi commissioned two Ecomelt melting furnaces from Austria’s Hertwich Engineering. The two furnaces supply the newly constructed die-casting line in Münchsmünster, Germany, with 100 tons of liquid metal per day. The heating system thoroughly preheats the charge before melting, resulting in low metal losses with good metal quality. Hertwich Engineering’s scope of supply included crucibles, melting tanks and a crucible charging and treatment station.

Reynolds Consumer Products placed an order with Hertwich Engineering for the supply of an Ecomelt melting furnace for its Hot Springs rolling mill in Arkansas. This furnace type provides greater flexibility during charging of scrap material, in particular with oily and coated scrap. It will replace two smaller furnaces and supply liquid metal to two existing casting lines in the future. Commissioning is scheduled for the first quarter of 2014.
