According to reports, a 160-ton radial press frame ordered by Carpenter Technology has arrived in the U.S. The frame, described by Carpenter officials as the largest hydraulic press in the world, will be installed at the company’s 500,000-square-foot facility currently under construction in Limestone County, Ala. It will be used to apply finishing force to the specialty alloys in products manufactured at the plant. Constructed in and shipped from Germany, the radial press frame cost approximately $35 million and took months to transport. Carpenter’s new Alabama facility, which is scheduled to be fully operational by April 2014, will include remelting, forging and associated finishing and testing capabilities.
