The Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL), Kerala State Industrial Development Corp. and Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd. (KMML) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to set up a joint-venture titanium project in the state of Kerala in India. In Phase 1, a titanium sponge and metal plant will be set up based on the supply of titanium tetrachloride by KMML. In subsequent phases, backward and forward integration will be explored for ensuring long-term viability of the project. This marks the second major titanium project in the state of Kerala. The first titanium sponge plant was built at KMML’s Chavara complex in 2011.
