Wallwork Heat Treatment, a U.K.-based thermal-processing and surface-engineering specialist, commissioned a new 800-kg-capacity (1,765-pound-capacity) furnace for the processing of aluminum and magnesium products. The furnace provides variable heat treatment for cast, forged, wrought or fabricated components from single items of up 2 cubic meters to batches of components as small as 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) diameter. The furnace is equipped to use a variety of quenchants and has the capability to achieve a rapid quench time of less than 10 seconds, ensuring effective processing of very small pressed or cast parts. According to Wallwork Heat Treatment, which operates from three sites in the U.K., the new furnace adds to its commercial processing capability and is part of a three-year development program that will see a further significant increase in this capacity.
