SMS Concast will supply the first electric-arc furnace (EAF) to long steel producer El Marakby Steel of Giza, Egypt. With a capacity of 350,000 tons per year, the new furnace broadens the company’s portfolio. The new meltshop will be used to feed El Marakby’s rebar mill with 130-mm square billets. Excess billet output will be sold to the open market. SMS Concast’s EAF offers recovery technology that fulfills the most stringent environmental regulations and contributes toward resource efficiency in steel production. Scrap from the U.S. and Europe will be used in the new furnace.
