Kobe Aluminum to Expand in Kentucky
Kobe Aluminum Automotive Products LLC (KAAP), a joint venture of Kobe Steel Ltd., Mitsui & Co. Ltd. and Toyota Tsusho Corp., will invest $11 million to expand its operations in Bowling Green, Ky. The expansion will include a new 39,000-square-foot building and a production line to produce cast-aluminum bars for use in car air conditioners. KAAP will also install a melting furnace, holding furnace, horizontal casting line, homogenizing furnace, roll straightener, and peeling and inspection line. The new plant will have a production capacity of 4,000 metric tons per year, and start-up is scheduled for August 2013. KAAP expects the expansion to create 15 new, full-time jobs.
