Rolls-Royce officially opened its first manufacturing facility built from the ground up in the U.S., a new advanced manufacturing and research campus in Prince George County, Va. Located on more than 1,000 acres, it is the largest Rolls-Royce site by area in North America. The company is investing $170 million in the new 180,000-square-foot facility, which will manufacture discs for advanced civil aerospace engines – the Trent 1000, Trent 900 and Trent XWB – designed for the Boeing 787, Airbus A380 and A350 XWB, respectively. When fully operational, this facility will create 130 jobs.
The facility combines state-of-the-art equipment and modern manufacturing methods to deliver the highest degree of quality while reducing manufacturing cost. It also incorporates several environmental features to reduce energy and water usage and help meet challenging targets to maximize recycling and limit waste going to landfill. Rolls-Royce plans to invest $500 million in Virginia over the coming years, generating a total of 500 jobs.
