According to a report in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Latrobe Specialty Steel is planning to build a titanium processing plant that would employ approximately 60 people. The company intends to invest between $15-30 million in the project. Latrobe Specialty Steel wants a site around Pittsburgh, Pa., for a 75,000- to 100,000-square-foot facility to produce titanium that would be rolled into wire to make fasteners for aerospace applications.

The new plant will not be in Latrobe due to concerns of possible contamination of titanium with other scrap metals used by the company. Latrobe Specialty Steel is expected to select a site by the end of March.
