RAD-CON, Inc. has been selected to provide Femco Steel Technology (FST) with a 100% hydrogen annealing furnace system. The furnace installation will answer FST’s needs for the efficient, reliable normalizing that the company’s ultrahigh-quality tubing products require. FST manufactures premium-grade golf shafts. The furnace and base anneals the tubes in multi-stack baskets. Three layers of baskets can be processed per charge. All equipment will be on site at FST by the end of 2010 with start-up scheduled for the first quarter of 2011.
To achieve the quality FST demands, the tube material for the golf shafts has to have very uniform metallurgical properties. After roll forming and welding, the tubes must be normalized to reach the designated properties. With the new equipment, FST will be able to consistently achieve the properties it needs while operating at the fastest cycle times.
