According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), U.S. steel mills shipped 7,224,190 net tons in August 2010, an 11.5% increase from the 6,481,886 net tons shipped in July 2010 and a 29.7% increase from the 5,570,368 net tons shipped in August 2009. Shipments year-to-date in 2010 are 56,014,216, a 51.4% increase versus 2009 shipments for eight months. A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes: hot-rolled sheet, up 15%; hot-dipped galvanized sheet and strip, up 12%; and cold-rolled sheet, up 4%.
